Abstract:
Extended Spectrum Beta-Lactamase (ESBL)-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae strains pose a significant threat to public health due to their resistance to commonly used antibiotics. This study focuses on the molecular characterization of ESBL-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates obtained from clinical specimens in Nasarawa State. The research employs molecular techniques to identify ESBL genes, assess genetic diversity, and determine antimicrobial resistance patterns.
A diverse collection of clinical specimens is sampled, and Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates are isolated and identified. Molecular analyses, including polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and DNA sequencing, are utilized to detect and characterize ESBL genes. The study also explores the genetic relatedness of the isolates through techniques such as pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) or multi-locus sequence typing (MLST). Antimicrobial susceptibility testing is performed to evaluate the resistance profiles of the isolates.
The findings aim to provide insights into the prevalence, genetic diversity, and resistance mechanisms of ESBL-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae in Nasarawa State.
