EVALUATION OF GAS TURBINE CYCLE EFFICIENCY WITH INTERNAL COMBUSTION WAVE ROTOR INTEGRATION
Abstract
The growing demand for energy and the need for sustainable power generation have prompted research into improving the efficiency of conventional gas turbine power plants. This study assesses the thermodynamic performance of a gas turbine power plant integrated with an internal combustion wave rotor for enhanced efficiency. The wave rotor, a pressure-exchange device, pre-compresses incoming air, thereby increasing turbine inlet pressure and temperature, which improves work output and overall thermal efficiency. A theoretical and simulation-based approach was employed to evaluate key thermodynamic parameters, including turbine inlet temperature, pressure ratio, specific work output, and thermal efficiency, under varying operating conditions. Results indicate that integrating a wave rotor significantly enhances cycle performance, yielding higher thermal efficiency, reduced fuel consumption, and improved specific work output compared to a conventional gas turbine system. The study concludes that wave rotor integration presents a viable method for efficiency improvement in gas turbine power plants and recommends its consideration in modern power generation designs to achieve sustainable and cost-effective energy production.
