Evaluation of Growth Patterns in Forest Plantations under Different Management Strategies
Abstract
Effective forest plantation management is critical for optimizing growth, productivity, and sustainability of forest ecosystems. This study analyzes the growth dynamics of forest plantations under varying silvicultural and management practices, including thinning, pruning, fertilization, and fire control. Data were collected from selected plantation sites over a period of five years, using standard dendrometric parameters such as tree height, diameter at breast height (DBH), basal area, and volume increment. A comparative assessment was conducted across different species and management regimes using both field measurements and remote sensing data.
Results indicate that plantations subjected to regular thinning and fertilization exhibited significantly higher growth rates and stand density optimization compared to unmanaged or poorly managed plots. Additionally, integrated fire control and pruning practices improved tree form and reduced mortality rates. The findings underscore the importance of adaptive and site-specific management strategies in enhancing forest productivity and ecosystem services.
This study provides empirical evidence to support evidence-based forest policy formulation and contributes to the development of sustainable forest management models in tropical and subtropical regions. The outcomes are relevant for forestry professionals, conservation planners, and policymakers aiming to enhance the economic and ecological value of plantation forests.
