ASSESSING THE SIGNIFICANCE OF CRYPTOGRAPHIC TECHNIQUES IN ENHANCING PERSONAL DATA SECURITY IN MODERN INFORMATION SYSTEMS
Abstract
The rapid growth of digital technologies and interconnected information systems has significantly increased the volume of personal data generated, processed, and stored across various platforms. However, this expansion has also intensified concerns regarding data breaches, identity theft, and unauthorized access to sensitive information. This study assesses the significance of cryptographic techniques in enhancing personal data security in modern information systems. The study first examines the concept of cryptography and establishes its relevance as a fundamental mechanism for ensuring confidentiality, integrity, authentication, and non-repudiation in data security frameworks. It further identifies and discusses major cryptographic techniques employed in contemporary systems, including symmetric encryption, asymmetric encryption, hashing algorithms, digital signatures, and public key infrastructure.
The research also analyses the role of cryptography in protecting personal data during storage, transmission, and processing, highlighting its importance in safeguarding sensitive information across cloud computing environments, financial systems, healthcare databases, and e-commerce platforms. Despite its advantages, the study evaluates key challenges associated with cryptographic implementation, such as key management complexities, computational overhead, scalability issues, evolving cyber threats, and the risks posed by quantum computing advancements.
Finally, the study proposes practical recommendations for strengthening cryptography-based data security, including the adoption of advanced encryption standards, robust key management systems, regular security audits, integration of multi-factor authentication, and continuous staff training. The findings underscore that effective implementation of cryptographic techniques remains a critical pillar in enhancing personal data security and maintaining trust in modern information systems.
