VULNERABILITY ANALYSIS OF SOME BANKS MOBILE APPS IN NIGERIA
Abstract
The rapid adoption of mobile banking applications in Nigeria has revolutionized financial services, offering convenience and accessibility to millions of users. However, this growth has also introduced significant security challenges, as these applications often handle sensitive user data and financial transactions. This study conducts a comprehensive vulnerability analysis of mobile banking apps from selected Nigerian banks to assess their resilience against cyber threats. Using a combination of static and dynamic analysis techniques, the research identifies common vulnerabilities such as insecure data storage, weak encryption protocols, insufficient authentication mechanisms, and susceptibility to man-in-the-middle attacks. The findings reveal critical security gaps that could potentially be exploited by malicious actors, compromising user data and financial integrity. The study concludes with actionable recommendations for developers, financial institutions, and regulatory bodies to enhance the security posture of mobile banking applications, ensuring safer digital banking experiences for users in Nigeria. This research underscores the importance of proactive vulnerability assessments in mitigating risks and fostering trust in digital financial systems.
