Effect of Corporate Governance Structures on Firm Value in Emerging Economies
Abstract
This study examines the relationship between corporate governance mechanisms and firm value in emerging economies, where institutional frameworks and market dynamics differ significantly from developed markets. The research seeks to determine how internal governance structures, including board composition, ownership concentration, audit committees, and executive compensation, influence the financial performance and market valuation of firms. A quantitative research design was employed, utilizing panel data from publicly listed companies across selected emerging economies over a ten-year period. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation, and regression techniques to assess the strength and direction of the relationships between governance mechanisms and firm value.
The findings indicate that robust corporate governance practices, particularly independent boards and effective audit committees, are positively associated with firm value, enhancing investor confidence and operational efficiency. Conversely, high ownership concentration in some contexts was found to negatively impact firm value, highlighting the nuanced effects of governance structures in emerging markets. The study underscores the importance of adopting comprehensive governance frameworks tailored to the institutional realities of emerging economies to optimize firm performance.
It is recommended that policymakers, regulatory bodies, and corporate managers in emerging markets strengthen corporate governance standards, promote transparency, and ensure effective monitoring to enhance firm value and attract long-term investment.
