EFFECTS OF MIND MAPPING ON ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT OF STUDENTS IN AGRICULTURAL SCIENCE IN LAFIA
Abstract:
This study investigates the effects of mind mapping on the academic achievement of students in Agricultural Science in Lafia. Mind mapping, as a visual learning technique, has gained recognition for its potential to enhance comprehension, retention, and recall of information. The research employs a quasi-experimental design, with one group receiving traditional teaching methods while the other is exposed to mind mapping techniques during instruction. Academic achievement is assessed through pre- and post-tests, with performance measured in terms of knowledge retention, understanding of concepts, and application of principles. Additionally, student perceptions of mind mapping are explored through surveys and interviews. The findings reveal that students exposed to mind mapping demonstrate significantly higher academic achievement compared to those receiving traditional instruction. Moreover, qualitative analysis indicates positive attitudes towards mind mapping, with students reporting enhanced engagement, organization of thoughts, and clarity of understanding. These results underscore the potential of mind mapping as an effective pedagogical tool for improving academic performance in Agricultural Science education. The study contributes to the growing body of research on innovative teaching strategies and underscores the importance of incorporating visual learning techniques into educational practices to enhance student learning outcomes.
